6th Grade Field Trip to Daewangam

The day after the staff trip, there were no classes at school for 5th and 6th graders. Instead, it was field trip day! (Also known as class picnic day). I got invited to go with the 6th graders class picnic down to Dong-gu to see Daewangam and Ilsan Beach. It was a nice, free day off to enjoy some sightseeing of Ulsan that I hadn't gotten the chance to explore yet and included a free gimbap lunch!

These are all my 6th graders in a giant pack, they rocks that we were crossing a bridge and going out on to see were to small to hold all of us at once. Instead they split into classes, took a group picture and then headed out one class at a time.

This bench (from what I could understand) was sort of a representation for all the wild/stray cats that lived on the peninsula.

This rock, Daewangam Island, is famous because it's supposedly looks like a "dragon rising up into the sky". Some Korean king or leader way in the past told everyone that he wanted to return as a dragon after his death so he could continue protecting his people and country. So people say that this "dragon island" is him. It's also one of the "12 Scenic Spots of Ulsan". (It was the 2nd I've seen of the 12, the first was the Munsu Stadium Complex).

In the distance, towards  Ulsan, you could see hundreds of cargo ships (all likely built right here in Ulsan which houses the world's largest shipyard).

The area was super windy, but the weather was perfect and the view was great!

After eating lunch and walking around the peninsula, we ended at Ilsan beach. Here the kids were able to mess around and through some rocks into the water while the teachers took even more pictures. Then we headed back to the bus and back to the school to call it a day.
