EPIK Life Video Contest 2014 -Bronze Winner


EPIK holds many different contests over the course of the year. In November, they announced their annual, EPIK Life Video Contest. In this competition, contestants must make a 5 minute video about their average life in Korea as a guest English teacher. The winners were announced on December 11th, and I discovered I won a bronze prize which includes a certificate of the award and $200 deposited in my bank account. It was totally worth the effort for me to make and it was a good thing to document anyways.

Exploring Manila (The Philippines, Part 1)

I arrived in Manila in the evening on Sunday. The city has some of the worst traffic I'd ever seen, and after adding an hour and a half taxi ride from the airport to my hostel to my lengthy traveling time of the day, I was exhausted. Once I checked into my dorm, I immediately fell asleep and left all my exploring to do on the second day. I got an early start to the next day. First I booked my bus ticket to Banaue for that night, then I took a walk around the area near my hostel. I stated by heading to the water. There was a long path that ran along the bay, full of construction workers and street vendors, but the view was pretty nice. In the distance in the picture below, you can actually just see the Ferris wheel belonging to the Mall of Asia, which is located behind the airport. Chiang Mai on Motorbikes (Thailand, Day 2)

Due to our late night the previous, our second full day in Chiang Mai had a late start. We renewed our stay at the hostel, go some breakfast and then headed to the bike rental place to return our bikes and rent motorbikes instead! It was incredibly cheap, just 6$ for a day, and about 2$ to fill the tank. (we thought we needed to fill it, but then ended up barely using 1/4 of it) After getting out of the main road and out of the city, we drove up the same street we had biked down the day before. Only this time, the traffic was much heavier and we went much farther. I had always wondered what it'd be like to be on a small moped or motorbike zipping in and out of cars in heavy traffic to race ahead, and we got to experience it first hand! Hong Kong, Exciting and Endless! (Winter Break - Part 3)

We arrived in Hong Kong after a short flight from Beijing at about 11 pm. By the time we made it to our hostel at around 1 am, we were exhausted and passed out immediately to regain our energy for the long day ahead of us. To start our day we met up with my mom's boss' niece, who is currently living and teaching English in Hong Kong. She took us to "Tim Ho Wan" a famous Chinese dim sum chain restuarant that originated in Hong Kong. The food was amazing, but also ridiculously cheap! We were stuffed by the time we left and only spent about $18 (for  three  people!). The restaurant has been dubbed "the world's cheapest Michelin-stared restaurant." Our hostel was in an area called Mong Kok, which is filled with famous markets and great shopping. Including: the ladies market, the flower market, the bird market, and the goldfish market.
